Eft is an evidence based technique that can improve your health

  • What is EFT?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique but is often referred to as ‘tapping’ as it involves tapping with the fingertips on specific energy points on the hands, head and chest – corresponding to Chinese meridian points – whilst focusing on a specific problem, physical symptom, emotion or memory.

This technique sends an electromagnetic impulse to the brain releasing the emotional charge connected to that memory or problem. The effect of this release, is that our subconscious programming is changed to physically alter our brain, energy system and body all at once.

One of the great advantages of EFT is that it is a tool that you can learn to use yourself to support you through everyday life. EFT is also useful as a complement to any conventional medical treatment.

  • How does EFT work?

EFT works by deactivating both the Amygdala, which is the part of the brain that manages stress, and the Hippocampus which is responsible for memories. Both of these play a role in the decision-making process with regard to our warning signals and letting us know when we are in danger.

Tapping on these meridian points whilst focussing on accepting and resolving the negative issue will access your body's energy, restoring it to a balanced state. This capacity to rapidly reduce the stress response is fundamental to the speed and effectiveness of tapping. Reducing stress helps you make better choices and when you make better choices your body responds.

In recent years EFT has been subjected to many clinical trials to test how it affects the mind and body. Research has now shown that this tapping technique can lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone, and improve the immune function which can ultimately improve physical health. There is currently ongoing research which also suggests EFT may regulate vagal activity allowing for better emotional regulation and recovery within the brain.
